Canadian Immigrant: Aditya Mhatre is empowering immigrants in their financial journey in Canada

Aditya Mhatre’s journey from a small town in India to a successful entrepreneur in Canada illustrates his resilience, adaptability, and commitment to making an impact. Initially inspired by a family computer, Mhatre’s curiosity for technology led him from India to Belgium as an exchange student, where he experienced the ease of European borders and developed a global perspective. Although he initially studied commerce, his dedication propelled him to earn a master’s in computer science at Carnegie Mellon.
His early entrepreneurial endeavors included pioneering an Indian podcast, while his career in digital payments flourished at Paytm Canada, and later in Japan, where he expanded mobile payment usage. Returning to Canada, Mhatre recognized the financial struggles newcomers face, sparking his idea for Beacon, a financial solutions company tailored to immigrants.
Beacon’s flagship product, Beacon Remit, simplifies international transfers for newcomers, aiming to address financial challenges faced by immigrants. Now, with his co-founder Stuart Szabo and $5 million in funding, Mhatre is focused on creating an immigrant-centric support system through innovative financial solutions. He advises aspiring immigrant entrepreneurs to network extensively, persist through rejections, and seek a supportive co-founder to navigate the challenges of building a business abroad.
